Cutting in

This game is the second of five in the finals for the OkLiga title, featuring Barça against Noia, with Barça playing at home.

As a reminder, follow these steps:

  1. Take a look at the video
  2. Read and think about the analysis.
  3. Match the analysis with the video. It starts at 5:03.

We have discussed Barça and Noia extensively during this analysis. Their strategies for offensive positional attacks and positional defence align closely with my values. While many teams share these values, Barça and Noia apply them frequently, making their tactics easy to observe and learn from.

Start

Let's set the context. As shown in the video, Noia's defence is quite open, with both its strengths and weaknesses. In my view, they are reckless in a positive sense. Noia is one goal down with 16 team faults and 2 minutes remaining in the second game of the series, and they are certainly pushing for a win. Barça has players who are very dangerous in the inner spaces that are left open by Noia’s defence.

Positional

Noia is defending high, employing a 20-metre one-on-one defence. Barça opts to open up their space as much as possible using their floor, with players positioned very openly. If we take a snapshot of Barça’s players at the beginning of the clip, we have one in position 3, one in 0 on the same side (close to the wall), the third in 0 but on the weak side also close to the wall, and the fourth in position 7 (offensive concepts) The clip starts with the ball in position 3, quickly passed to the player on the same side in position 0, who then passes to the weak side after a few touches.
