Everything happens at someones the back

You might realise that today, we are not analysing a goal. It is not a goal thanks to Nil Vinya. The play is outstanding, tactically speaking. The movement executing was brilliant.

Today we have a really interesting game from Okliga day 26 between Barça and Reus. The game ended 2-2 . I want to highlight the incredible performance of Nil Vinya, Reus goalkeeper.

Let me dig into Barça's setup. Eloi Cervera (Barça Nº72) is passing the ball from the opposite while he skates backwards towards 0. Opening the space and balancing the attack. Look at his defender, instead of following him. The defender stays at 9.

Cervera’s pass goes to Miki Escala (Barça Nº5) located at 3. Escala passes the ball to Sergi Aragones (Barça Nº55) at the same side as Escala but on 0. Look at the Escala and Aragones’ side. There is only one defender. That could be the reason why Cervera’s defender stays at 7.

On top of these, Can you spot the 4th attacker? Barroso (Barça Nº26) located in the area at the same side as Cervera. Opening the space to their team mates also dragging at least one defender with him.

Picturing all of these, After the pass, Escala, slowly skates towards the middle. Look closely, he does not skate too fast or too slow. He is looking for the perfect timing so Aragones can get a perfect block.

Now Aragones, Aragones skates down the wall, he does not change direction until he gets to 3. The new direction is completely horizontal, parallel to the halfway line. The reason is simple, getting as much space as possible for the shot.

Instead of the shot, Aragones passes to Barroso who just shows up from behind the cage at the same side. Barroso skates behind the cage and the pass is where the beauty is. After the pass Aragones cuts in with an incredible power, getting the defenders back and Escala’s block.

Barroso passes back to Aragones. Aragones ends up in a situation where he is free from defenders, but Nil Vinya (Reus Goalie) was really smart and fast. Nil was able to position himself in a really good position to cover a lot of space and save Aragones execution.

I know this situation did not end on a goal. But you have to think that sometimes, an incredible movement does not finish on a goal. There is another team on the floor that will try hard not to make it happen. And this time it was the goalie.
