Friendly reminder before we start. Hockey is divided into 3 stages, attack, defence and transitions. I think attack and defence don’t need introduction but transitions do. A transition is any part of the game in between the attack and defence and defence and attack. We differentiate the offensive transition where we change from defence to attack. It may be a counter attack if there is a chance; we also have a defence transition from attack to defence when we lose the ball and we have to go back to defence.
Saying this, this analysis is counter attack, how not to defend. I'm going to be honest, sometimes you can do a perfect defence on a counter attack and still get a goal on you. And the question should be asked why did the other team have a counter attack.
This time, Igualada picked up a rebound. The issue here is, all Igualada players are facing Sant just in the goal cage. One Snat just player ends up in 4 after the shot, another is a standing tower in the box top corner, easily dribbled at the beginning. A quick pass from Igualada leads to 3 on 2 counter attack.
Igualada quickly sets a triangle. Why triangle? 3 easy passes, on paper you can pass to any team mate. The defence for this is simple too, one on the ball, and the other on the top player. And as soon as you decide the side, you stick to that player.
