This Igualada has some missing faces and some new faces. Two of the main players from last season emigrated to the Portuguese league. Igualada did a move anyway, Matías Pascual sign for Igualada and the young goalkeeper from Caldes Arnau Martinez.
Firstly, look at the Igualada defence, they are doing 20 mts defence. Barça got the ball down to 7. Having 3 players on the strong side and one on the weak side.
Barça drags all the attention to the ball to quickly change to the weak side. The reason is simple. Danger. In this sport, a good positional attack is not only having the ball and passing the ball. It is about that too. But it also is about the sense of fear. Being able to project fear on the defender every time you are close to the area for example.
Here is the example: When Aragones (Barça Nº55) passes to the weak side, Ferrant Font (Barça Nº24) fakes the shot. After the shot he shoots, getting all the defenders close to him. He is in 3 in an extremely dangerous position.
Arnau saves the shot. Look at Aragones; he is on the weak side at 0 when Font shots. When Arnau saves the ball, Alabart (Barça Nº3) is already skating out for balance. And it happens to be skating towards the rebound.
Due to the rebound, something is going on with the defence. We talked about it before. Hope you guessed it. It is the accordion. So they opened the defence without aiming to. Aragones is still skating backwards towards his goalcage.
When Alabart fully controls the ball, he passes to Aragones. Aragones skates off the wall stopping the ball while he is skating. The result? When he gets to the defender he is starting to skate backwards while Aragones is already on full speed. Another detail. Font skates out with Alabart leaving 9 fully free.
Something interesting about Aragones, even though he is not in full speed. He does not stop. When he gets to 3, he is still next to the wall. That is the time when the defender catches up so he relaxes a bit, so that is the time to attack. Aragones changes speed and breaks into the area. He managed to get in front of the goalkeeper free from the defender. Aragones uses the skating advantage to go over the goalie scoring the first goal of the match.
