Can we also apply this attacking concept into goalkeepers? If you have read my previous emails you will probably know the answer.

First let’s introduce the “back” concept, it is usually referred to as “taking someone’s back”. More precisely taking the defender’s back, it is a really simple concept that will make you improve your attacking and I hope your defence as well.

Have you ever seen a defender defending on a 1 on 1 basis (I’m assuming that you already know what that is) that instead of looking at his mark is looking at the ball and probably rolling towards the ball?

Well, let me tell you that if you are from Australia or New Zealand or any country from Asia-Oceania you will see this on every single game. But don’t worry because some of the top players in the majors leagues have this problem.

As I mentioned, these defenders that stop taking care of his attacker leave the attacker kind of free. So a lot of attackers skate towards the space using this blind spot to get a free ticket to the cage.

Now think of the goalkeeper, this guy has to be looking at the ball and there is some situation that his orientation forces him to give completely the back to one half of the floor or more.

Guess when.

I'm still waiting
