My Not-So-Humble Analysis

This play is a masterclass in creating space, rotations, and exploiting the weak side.

Clear Side

First, Edu Lamas (Porto Nº6) passes to Gonçalo Alves (Porto Nº77) and immediately cuts inside, looking to set a block for Alves.

Alves then carries the ball from deep to the centre and passes back to Helder Nunes (Porto Nº78). Meanwhile:

  • Lamas clears the space, moving to the opposite side.
  • Alves follows him, ensuring Helder has a clear side to operate.
  • Diogo Barata (Porto Nº88) positions himself at the second post, Helder’s opposite side—worth keeping an eye on.

Clear Up

Helder takes a risky diagonal approach, skating alongside the defenders before passing back to Lamas.

At this moment:

  • Lamas and Gonçalo Alves create space, both moving toward the opposite side.
  • Alves stays on a straight line at halfway, while Lamas moves wider.
  • Helder follows slightly, and Barata switches sides once again.
