Opening spaces

Opening spaces

Simple play that any team can replicate. I say simple not easy. There are a lot of small decisions that the players should make to make this play work. Take them back home and look for them

As a reminder, Follow this steps:

  1. Take a look at the video:
  2. Read and think about the analysis.
  3. Match the analysis and the video. Min 3:21

As we can see in the first moments of the play what Calafell is doing is having 2 players on the midfloor and the other 2 in a more advanced position. The 2 players at the back are passing the ball in between them and cutting in. The difference is, instead of cutting in fully to 9 they cut and come back to the original position. Forcing the defenders to follow them in and out, making space in 9.

It is kind of similar to the accordion tactics we have analysis before.

Another small thing. When the players stop the ball they always stop the ball next to the wall and skating, and the more advanced player on the same side tries to set a block. It gets to a point that Biel Pujadas (Calafell Nº47) takes the block. Before we keep going, Pujadas is an incredibly fast skater and really hard to stop on a one on one situation or like this one, a block. As soon as he gets to a certain speed he is unstoppable.

Also we need to take a look at the sides. Players on the right side, don't block at the opposite side or cut at the opposite side. Doing this  they force the defenders to make a decision. Help defend the ball or stay.
