Paiva's Signature
This is a sensation, Liceo against Igualada. At Liceo’s rink, and this guy is reckless. Just imagine Igualada’s game. Big spaces and a lot of fast skating. And this guy pushed them on the peak space when the Igualada player stopped the ball and was already skating. This is not the only time he takes advantage of being large. That is actually how he scored the goal.

The beginning of the clip is a classic Igualada move, getting the ball at their own floor and skating fast and determined towards the goal. Getting advantage on the skating and the speed. At this time Nuno Paiva (Liceo Nº11) lunges for the ball while he is being blocked.
This is the signature. Paiva is a large player, he takes advantage all the time regarding his reachiness. This is the key. Even though Miguel Cañadillas (Igualada Nº67) is skating fast and putting some distance, Paiva is able to touch the ball. Making Cañadillas lose control of the ball.
When this happens Dava Torres (Liceo Nº8) , the closer defender to the ball, skates towards the ball taking advantage of Paiva’s effort. Regarding what happens, look at Paiva. When Paiva reads the situation and gets to the conclusion, this is a counter attack, a millisecond has passed. Even Before Dava gets the ball, Paiva is skating towards the counter attack. And this is the second reckless move.
As you can imagine, Dava gets the ball. Now I’m going to tell you something. This move is part of Paiva’s tool box. All his team mates know that he will do that. Dava, fights and gets the ball and passes straight to Paiva. I have seen this move and I can tell that Dava is guessing where Paiva is.
You can tell as the pass is a bit longer than it should, but Paiva manages to get it on a perfect timing. Paiva gets the ball at 9 and this is the best part. When he stops the ball he does a one on one on the keeper, free from the defender. We can call this the dream counter attack. One pass and you are in front of the goalkeeper.
On the one on one you can see how easy he does it, but here is the second time he uses his reachness. Not only his long arms he also uses his legs to make it even longer plus his explosive movements, he is able to score that simple to the second post.
Now my thoughts about this move. Only a few players that are large enough and they have privilege reading on the attackers skating can do it, even those players will miss a lot of times. And the difference between them will be where do they do it and how fast will they recover position after this move. And let me tell you most of the time the player will miss the shot and it will become a problem.
