Role Change

How to Follow the Breakdown:
- Watch the video.
- Read the analysis.
- Match it with the play (start at 5:58).
My Not-So-Humble Analysis
This play is a textbook example of deception, weak-side exploitation, and positional awareness.
Passes
The clip starts with Joan Salvat (Reus Nº5) positioned wide, near the halfway line.
- He passes to Marc Julià (Reus Nº15) on the opposite side.
- But instead of cutting in, Salvat fakes the movement and skates back towards 0—an unusual choice that hints at a tactical adjustment.
The 3 Position
Marc Julià quickly shifts the play, passing to Diego Rojas (Reus Nº19).
Look at Diego:
- He’s positioned at 3, with his back touching the wall.
- As soon as the pass comes, he skates forward to meet it.
- Marc Julià sets up to block Diego’s defender on 3—a crucial detail.
Reus is now setting up a weak-side opportunity.
Weak Side Activation
While skating backward, Diego Rojas passes to Salvat, now positioned on the weak side.
Sant Just’s defence is completely out of sync:
- No coverage on the weak side.
- Salvat’s defender rushes to close him down—too late.
