Role Change

Role Change

Today, we’re breaking down the OK Liga, Day 15 match between Sant Just and Reus, where Reus dominated with a 7-2 victory.

Our focus? Joan Salvat, Reus’ captain, who usually plays as an inner player but took on a different role in this play.

How to Follow the Breakdown:

  1. Watch the video.
  2. Read the analysis.
  3. Match it with the play (start at 5:58).

My Not-So-Humble Analysis

This play is a textbook example of deception, weak-side exploitation, and positional awareness.

Passes

The clip starts with Joan Salvat (Reus Nº5) positioned wide, near the halfway line.

  • He passes to Marc Julià (Reus Nº15) on the opposite side.
  • But instead of cutting in, Salvat fakes the movement and skates back towards 0—an unusual choice that hints at a tactical adjustment.

The 3 Position

Marc Julià quickly shifts the play, passing to Diego Rojas (Reus Nº19).

Look at Diego:

  • He’s positioned at 3, with his back touching the wall.
  • As soon as the pass comes, he skates forward to meet it.
  • Marc Julià sets up to block Diego’s defender on 3—a crucial detail.

Reus is now setting up a weak-side opportunity.

Weak Side Activation

While skating backward, Diego Rojas passes to Salvat, now positioned on the weak side.

Sant Just’s defence is completely out of sync:

  • No coverage on the weak side.
  • Salvat’s defender rushes to close him down—too late.
