Side plays

Today, we’re diving into the Day 12 OkLiga game between Sant Just and Noia. The fact that Noia came out on top isn’t surprising, but the real shocker is that they only edged out Sant Just by one goal. Hats off to Sant Just for a stellar effort.

My Not-So-Humble Analysis

The Power of 3

Once again, the importance of position 3 is on full display. Xavi Crespo (Sant Just Nº2) pauses there, and his defender wisely keeps some distance. (Let’s face it—every OkLiga player has the potential to score from 3 if given space.)

After waiting for a moment, Alex Joseph (Sant Just Nº4) steps in for a block & roll, setting up the play.

Directional Precision

Crespo begins skating across 9, parallel to the penalty box. This trajectory is crucial—if he’d skated directly toward the cage, possession would’ve been lost immediately. At 9, Sito Ricard (Sant Just Nº8) sets another block for Crespo.

The Missed Pass

As Crespo skates toward the weak side, Pujalte (Sant Just Nº33) moves from his position on the weak side to the opposite side. Crespo looks for Pujalte but fails to connect with the pass. It’s a rare mistake, but even at this level, it happens.

Recovering the Play

What happens next is both curious and predictable. Pujalte cuts in, dragging his defender, while Crespo scrambles to recover the ball. Sito, meanwhile, moves to 0 on the weak side. This triggers Noia’s defensive push.
