Important topic today, this is an example of an analytical situation, it shows some issues a lot of teams face though. It is what I like to call passive or defense by accumulation. Some players have the wrong idea about defending and think that if they are in the middle of the box like a watching tower they are doing an outstanding job. And they are right if their goal is being a cone not a defender.

And I’m telling you you won’t go far with this habit. Keep reading till the end, I will reveal the secret. 

In this analysis there are a few things to look at, the transition and the early positional attack.

The transition

Perfect transition for both sides, defenders and attackers. Lleida is able to avoid a counter attack just marking players up, good job.

As the theory says, bring the ball behind the cage after the transition to settle the defence and start the positional attack. Xavi Aragones (Noia Nº26) gets the ball on the opposite side, and he is the one that carries the ball to 7. There is also an outstanding detail, when is driving the ball to 7, he tries to get into the box. I'm sure that his goal is not getting in the box, it is just to make the defence uncomfortable and if there is a chance, capitalise it.
