Transition + Transition
I am officially starting the third season of this project. I’m so excited about it and I’m glad to have you reading this content. I never imagined that I would do something like this.
This season there are a few rules updates, I think that the most visible ones for the viewers are: first of all, the verbal warning has been replaced with a yellow card. And secondly the blue cards and red cards. The punishment for the player is still the same, 2 and 4 minutes. The difference is that power play will remain for the entire time. The 4 against 4 will be restored after the time.
This first analysis is the Lliga Catalana Final in between Calafell and Barça. Calafell brought the cup home for the second year in a row. The game ended 4-2. This cup is a preseason tournament played by the catalan teams that will play Ok Liga this season.
As a reminder, Follow this steps:
- Take a look at the video:
- Read and think about the analysis.
- Match the analysis and the video. Min 0:22
Both teams had some new members, but I am quite excited about Calafell new members. Joan Pujalte, Marti Serra, Quim Gabarro. The Calafell project looks as good as last year. Let's see how it goes.
The analyst starts on a Calafell counter attack, 2 on 2. Being really honest, Barça's defence is good, up and tight. This makes Barça recover the position of the ball. Here comes the first thing.
Barça does the offensive transition. The transition becomes a counter attack, a 3 on 2 situation. Barça turned a 2 on 2 defensive transition into a 3 on 2 counter attack. The main reason is Xavi Barroso’s (Barça Nº26) position. Not only the position on the floor, but also his body orientation.
Barroso makes is third player on Barça’s counter attack. Now that Barça is on the move. Calafell transitions too. Take a look at how Calafell defends the situation. Barça sets up the triangle. As the book says. Calafell sets one defender on a wing, the wing where the ball is. And the other defender in the middle, covering the top of the triangle. Perfect defence.
Calafell sets a third defender. I will explain soon. Barça passes the ball to the player at the wing free form defender and here it is when the third defender shows up. This third defender is called Marti Serra AKA new Calafell’s goalkeeper.
At this transition every defender has a responsibility, including the goalie. The defender’s role is simply to cover the first option. Which they performed perfectly, like a swiss clock. And then the role changed to stay with that attacker, no swaps, no changes, no chasing the ball. Just cover the player. So that gives the goalkeeper the responsibility of taking care of the third attacker.
This makes Marti’s job easier. He knows that he only covers one option so therefore, he can be aggressive. That is what happens. Marti is so aggressive, forcing the attacker to do the one on one so close to him. Giving Marti the advantage of the situation. Marti Saves the goal incredibly keeping the scoreboard on a draw.
