The important third guy

Damn it. Only a few with a trained eye and mindset will find the key point here. So if you are one of those I hope my writing over the years helped a bit to get there.

As a reminder, Follow this steps:

  1. Take a look at the video:
  2. Read and think about the analysis.
  3. Match the analysis and the video. Min 7:36

A bit of context, because this stage of competition usually changes the flow of the game. This is the final 4 of the WSE Cup men. Second European competition. This is the semi final between Lleida and Monza, Spanish Vs Italians. This is the second goal of the Spanish team.

The goal starts here, when Sebas Moncusi (Lleida Nº9) stops the game flow at 3. Wells is a bit more deeper than 3. It has a similar effect though, but the option of going into the area is a way more tight. Sebas’ defender is really close to him, the defender from the side is quite close to the wall, Monza’s Number 7.

Nico Ojeda (Lleida Nº55) puts a block on Sebas. The goal here is to get him some space to breathe with the ball. Sebas skates out throw the wall, passing to Dario Gimenez (Lleida Nº6). Dario’s defender is closer to Sebas than to him.

Dario does a smart thing here, considering that he is Dario Gimenez. In one-on-one he will always win. ALWAYS. Considering this, Dario slows down, aiming the defenders to open the space a bit. Same concept as the accordion. Look at the weak side here, fully open, so 9 is almost free.

Sebas puts a block on Dario. Check out Nico Ojeda here. He holds the position at 3, not at the penalty point. Dario starts skating toward the middle. In an usual situation, 9 will be extremely crowded but not this time, considering the kind of defence Monza is doing. Dario takes the middle, while Sebas rolls in.
