Back with one of my fav teams last season, Calafell. The clip starts with Calafell controlling the ball at the 7. Check the defense here please. We can only see 2 attackers, one at 7 and the other one at 4. But all defenders are almost in the area. Biel Pujadas (Calafell N47) passes the ball quickly to his teammate. Aleix Marimon (Calafell N74) is that teammate. Marimon is located on 0, but on the same side as Pujadas.
We can see how much space Marimon has at the moment, and how the defense is going up towards the ball, opening some space at 9. Marimon skates towards 9 and passes the ball to the other side. Look at the defence, the defence is still so tight. No matter how Calafell moves the ball to the sides or how far the ball goes. At the other side, when they get the ball, something happens, simple but yet effective.
The player that gets the ball (sorry, I cannot see the number) quickly passes the ball to the teammate skating up in his direction. These 2 players swap positions, forcing the defenders to move along with them. On the other side, the same thing happens. Marimon cuts in after the pass and Sergi Folguera (Calafell N83) moves towards 0. Folguera gets the ball, and now take a look at the defenders. Folguera’s defender is almost at the half way line. Calafell is managing to open the lines.
Marimon puts a block on Folguera. A really high block. The Liceo defender from the other side comes to help on the defence, closing almost any opportunity for the block. Any way, Marimon cuts in and Folguera skates towards 9 after dribbling one defender. Folguera gets in trouble and passes the ball to the weak side. Look at Folguera, he skates back towards 0.
